at the station Gas stations may seem like insignificant spaces, but in fact, they preserve a variety of cultural values as well as serve as a safe space for many, although some believe this quality is lost due to the modernization of the stations. Gas stations are a certain mirror of society and thus account for the culture and zeitgeist of each moment in time. When looked at closely, you find a special form of communication, polluting processes, and the effects of consumerism in the 21st century. At the beginning of the project, the number of gas stations in the capital area of Iceland was to be significantly reduced and the stations are therefore a negligible phenomenon. Today, this plan has already been implemented and many stations have been given a new role in the form of cycling workshops, flower shops, ice cream stores, bakeries, etc. The process of change often makes us want to look back at the past and try to predict the future. We tend to forget that it is no less interesting to look at gas stations as they are today. How do they reflect current social situations and what does that tell us?
