altént studio founded in 2024 by Salóme Hollanders and Þórdís Lilja, is a creative studio that operates at the intersection of visual arts and design.

haze I & II are a fusion of lighting and sculpture, serving the purpose of both, much like sculptures with functionality. Earthy tones, the natural hues of fired clay, and the subtle variations in Icelandic sheep wool blend together, shaping the visual character of each lamp. A warm glow radiates through the delicate felted wool encasing the lightbulb, casting a soft, inviting ambiance. The interplay of form and illumination brings a sense of warmth, tranquility, and the essence of nature into the home. The name haze or hula in Icelandic refers to softness, calm, and of security within a space, as well as within one’s inner space. The designers focus on how light interacts with space, emphasizing the sensory experience while also elevating craftsmanship as an artistic tradition. Through these sculptural lamps, they celebrate the intersection of art, design, and traditional craftsmanship.
